Chicago, IL | January 10, 2026 โ Caleb Williams had a 41.7 passer rating through three quarters. Two interceptions, zero touchdowns, a team trailing 21-6. He finished 24-of-48 for 361 yards and two touchdowns, and the Chicago Bears walked out of Soldier Field with a 31-27 win over the Green Bay Packers โ the franchise’s first playoff victory in 15 years.
Jordan Love threw four touchdowns with zero interceptions and still lost. Green Bay led 21-3 at halftime, held that 15-point cushion into the fourth quarter, then gave up 25 unanswered points as Williams turned the game completely on its head in the final period.
Chicago became one of four teams in NFL history to overcome a 15-point deficit in the fourth quarter of a playoff game and win. The Green Bay Packers fell to 33-4 all-time in playoff games when holding a double-digit lead.

The Fourth Quarter
Love had done everything asked of him. Three touchdown drives in the first half, an 18-point lead, a defense that had forced incompletions, turnovers, and stalled drives for 45 minutes. Green Bay had received the ball to open the third quarter and still led 21-6 going into the final period. It looked locked.
D’Andre Swift’s 6-yard TD run cut it to 21-16 with 10 minutes left. Green Bay answered immediately โ Love found rookie Matthew Golden on a 23-yard catch-and-run, Golden breaking three tackles for his first NFL touchdown to push the lead back to 27-16 with 6:36 to play. Then Brandon McManus missed the extra point wide left.
That missed PAT was the first in a sequence that cost the Packers seven points on the night. McManus had already missed a 55-yard attempt on the last play of the first half. Williams drove the Bears 76 yards, hit Olamide Zaccheaus for an 8-yard score, and Colston Loveland caught the 2-point conversion to pull it to 27-24 with 4:18 remaining. Green Bay needed a field goal to put the game away. McManus pushed a 44-yarder wide right with under three minutes left.
“My role on the team is to make kicks and these guys pour in thousands of plays over the course of the season and I leave seven points on the board today,” McManus said. “It’s the most disappointing part of my career right now.”
Williams drove 66 yards in six plays. On third-and-10, he pump-faked and found D.J. Moore running free down the left sideline for 25 yards and the go-ahead score with 1:43 left. Chicago led for the first time since 3-0.
Love got one more possession, reaching the Chicago 23 before a false start, a delay-of-game penalty coming out of a Green Bay timeout, and two incompletions left him with a desperate final play. He dropped the snap, scrambled, and launched a prayer to the end zone. Jaquan Brisker deflected it. Ballgame.
“True belief,” Williams said afterward. “That’s all you need.”

Green Bay’s penalty count (seven flags for 65 yards against Chicago’s two for five) amplified every second-half stall. Chicago ran 10 more plays and controlled the ball for over five additional minutes, a gap that widened with every Green Bay flag.
Green Bay’s Off-Season
The loss ended Green Bay’s season at 9-8-1, the close of a five-game losing streak. Matt LaFleur entered the off-season with one year remaining on his contract, as did general manager Brian Gutekunst. Team president Ed Policy had said before the season that he was “generally opposed” to having a coach or GM head into a contract’s final year without an extension.
The Packers had acquired star pass rusher Micah Parsons from Dallas in August, raising expectations significantly. Parsons suffered a season-ending knee injury in a Week 15 loss at Denver and never returned. Green Bay’s defense held Chicago to six points over the first three quarters. It could not hold the fourth.
LaFleur sidestepped questions about his job security after the game. “With all due respect, now’s not the time for that,” he said. “I’m just hurting for these guys.” Love, for his part, backed his head coach. “I definitely think Matt should be the head coach,” Love said. “I’ve got a lot of love for Matt, and I think he does a good job.”
Green Bay dropped to 33-4 all-time in playoff games when holding at least a 10-point lead. The other three losses: Seattle in the 2014 NFC Championship Game, Philadelphia in the 2003 divisional round, and now this one at Soldier Field.
For Chicago, it was the seventh fourth-quarter comeback of the season, and the franchise’s first playoff win since January 2011. Williams threw for 361 yards in his postseason debut with two touchdowns that both came in the fourth quarter. Loveland, a rookie, led all receivers with 137 yards. Jaquan Brisker, the last man on the final play, batted away Love’s desperation heave and set off a celebration 15 years in the making.
“This one stings and it should sting and it should sting for a long time,” LaFleur said the morning after. The Packers left Chicago with four Love touchdowns, zero turnovers, and nothing to show for January.
