Who Is Lora Chaffins? Inside the Private Life of Matt Long’s Wife

In June 2021, a woman who almost never uses Facebook wrote a post. She explained she rarely shared things publicly, then asked strangers to stream two seasons of a television show because doing so could affect the show’s future. She did not mention that her husband starred in it. She made her case and went quiet again. The show was Manifest. The woman was Lora Chaffins. The post worked.

Lora Chaffins is an American woman from Kentucky, known publicly as the wife of actor Matt Long. The couple met as students at Western Kentucky University, married on April 23, 2005, and have two children together. Long is best recognised for playing Zeke Landon in the NBC and Netflix drama Manifest across four seasons and 51 episodes. Throughout their 21-year marriage, Lora has maintained a private life with no confirmed public-facing career.

How Lora Chaffins Met Matt Long

Both are from Kentucky. Matt Long was born in Winchester, Kentucky, and enrolled at Western Kentucky University around 1998, graduating in 2002 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performing Arts. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and was already performing wherever he could โ€” including a college production of Pippin โ€” before his professional career began.

Lora attended the same university. The two met as students, during years when Long was doing college theatre and had not yet become anyone the press would care about.

After graduating, Long moved to New York City to work in theatre. While performing at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts, a manager spotted him. He auditioned in Los Angeles, won the lead role in Jack & Bobby โ€” the WB drama that debuted in September 2004 โ€” and relocated to the city. By that point, he and Lora had been together for several years.

The Proposal โ€” On One Knee at 10,000 Feet

In a 2015 interview with Digital Journal, Long described the engagement in full:

“I had lived in LA for about four months and I took my then-girlfriend up to Mt. San Antonio, which is about 10,000 feet. It was like a perfect day. The clouds were starting to roll in, the sun was getting a little low, getting a little orange and purple, and there was snow on the summit. It was just unbelievably gorgeous. There were only two other people up there. I had the ring with me, I got down on one knee in the snow and proposed to her. She said yes. It was always my dream to propose on the top of a mountain and I got to do it.”

Mt. San Antonio sits in the San Gabriel Mountains, northeast of Los Angeles. Long had been in the city for four months, had just landed his first major television role, and carried the ring up the trail. They married the following April.

Are Matt Long and Lora Chaffins Still Together?

Yes. Lora Chaffins and Matt Long married on April 23, 2005 and are still together as of April 2026 โ€” 21 years of marriage. There is no verified report of any separation.

They have two children:

  • A daughter, born in 2014
  • A son, born in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic

When their son arrived, Long shared a post on Instagram showing a baby’s hand and tiny feet โ€” no name, no face, a deliberate choice. He framed it as a small gesture of hope during a difficult year. Neither child’s name has ever been made public, and both parents have held that position without exception.

As restrictions eased after lockdown, Long took his eldest child on their first backpacking trip, to Kings Canyon National Park in California. During the pandemic itself, the family had created a makeshift camping setup at home, which Long documented on Instagram. Lora was not in those posts.

Lora Chaffins’ Family in Kentucky

Lora remains close to her mother and sister, both based in Kentucky.

Her mother, Joan, underwent life-threatening open-heart surgery. In February 2018, several months into Joan’s recovery and when she was approximately 75 years old, Lora wrote publicly on Facebook:

“Thank you, God and the Cleveland Clinic, for granting my mother a longer life and a renewed, healthy heart.”

Her sister, Lisa Chaffins, is a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher in Kentucky, with positions at Henry Clay High School and Madison Central High School in Richmond. Lisa also studied School Counselling at Eastern Kentucky University. Their mother Joan has a background in education of her own โ€” having worked as a Distance Learning Facilitator at South Floyd High School and studied at Eastern Kentucky University.

In 2022, Joan marked Daughters Day on social media by calling both Lora and Lisa her best friends. That November, Lisa shared the Manifest Season 4 poster on Facebook with a direct message to the show’s audience:

“Manifest Fans, season 4 is streaming on Netflix! Show your support for KY native Matt Long (my brother-in-law) as the character ‘Zeke.'”

What Does Lora Chaffins Do?

Her professional background has never been confirmed by any named or verifiable source. Published claims that she worked as a nurse or an executive assistant carry no sourcing and have not been verified by any established outlet. The accurate answer is that her career, if she has one outside the home, is not public knowledge.

What Long has said directly is that outdoor life is a shared part of their marriage. In the same 2015 Digital Journal interview, when asked what he would do if he had not become an actor:

“I’d be someone who worked outdoors. My wife and I love to go backpacking. We always plan a big trip or two. We have a baby now, so we haven’t been for the last couple of years.”

That interview was conducted in 2015, when their daughter was around one year old. The family also keeps a black-and-white cat named Frank, who appears in Long’s Instagram posts from time to time.

Two Red Carpets in 21 Years

Over more than two decades married to a working actor, Lora Chaffins has attended two confirmed public events, both documented through Getty Images:

DateEventLocation
April 10, 2006Standing Still film premiereHollywood, California
January 30, 201117th Annual Screen Actors Guild AwardsLos Angeles, California

The 2011 SAG Awards appearance carries some context. Long attended as part of the Mad Men ensemble, nominated that night for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series alongside Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss, Christina Hendricks, and John Slattery. Lora attended, was photographed, and the cameras moved on almost immediately.

Matt Long’s Career

Long’s professional career spans more than 20 years across television and film. He broke through in 2004 with Jack & Bobby on The WB, playing the lead, and appeared as the young Johnny Blaze in Ghost Rider in 2007. He later built recurring roles in Mad Men as Joey Baird and in Shonda Rhimes’ Private Practice as Dr. James Peterson.

His most sustained and visible role was Zeke Landon in Manifest (NBC/Netflix, 2019โ€“2023). The character โ€” a hiker who survived a blizzard and returned one year later, presumed dead โ€” became a central figure across all four seasons. Zeke eventually married the character Michaela Stone, developed empathic abilities, and sacrificed his life midway through Season 4 to save another character’s life. Long appeared in all four seasons across 51 episodes.

His most recent credit is The Stars Between Us, a romantic drama co-starring Sarah Drew, which aired on Hallmark Channel on February 21, 2026.

The ring came out at 10,000 feet, in the snow, with the sun going orange and purple over Mt. San Antonio. That was 2004. Twenty-one years later, Lora Chaffins lives in Los Angeles with her husband, two children whose names remain their own, and a cat named Frank. She posts on Facebook when she has something worth saying. In more than two decades alongside Hollywood, that has happened twice โ€” once when her mother was recovering from surgery, and once for a television show she quietly refused to let disappear.

Jordan Berglund started Daily News Magazine in January 2026 after spending the better part of a decade reporting for UK regional papers. He moved to London from Stockholm in 2018 and cut his teeth covering business, politics, entertainment, and breaking news across Europe, which gave him a front-row seat to how traditional newsrooms were struggling to adapt. He studied journalism at Uppsala University and later trained at the Reuters Institute, but most of what he knows about running a newsroom came from years of watching what worked and what didn't. He still reports on UK politics, celebrity news, sports, technology, and European affairs when he's not editing, and he's building Daily News Magazine around the idea that speed and accuracy don't have to be enemies.
