Jonathan Taylor Thomas Wife Natalie Wright: The Real Story

Natalie Wright is not Jonathan Taylor Thomas’s wife. She never was. And the story hundreds of celebrity biography sites use to explain how the two allegedly met does not survive a basic fact-check.

That matters, because the claim has been repeated so many times that it now reads as accepted biography in dozens of publications, none of which appear to have verified the original source.

Here is what the actual record shows.

From Home Improvement to Harvard

Born Jonathan Taylor Weiss on September 8, 1981, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Jonathan Taylor Thomas became one of the most recognizable faces in 1990s American television before he was old enough to vote.

His run as Randy Taylor on ABC’s Home Improvement (1991โ€“1998) alongside Tim Allen spanned 179 episodes and made him a household name. Voicing young Simba in Disney’s The Lion King (1994) only widened that reach. By the mid-1990s, his face was on virtually every teen magazine in print.

At 17, he made a decision that most people in his position never consider. He left the show voluntarily. He enrolled at Harvard University to study philosophy and history, spent his third year at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, and graduated from Columbia University in 2010.

His reasoning, shared in a 2013 People interview, was straightforward:

“I’d been going nonstop since I was 8 years old. I wanted to go to school, to travel and have a bit of a break. An education is a more surefire guarantee that you have possibilities opened to you.”

He never returned to acting full-time. And through all of it, he has never married anyone.

The Natalie Wright Story Most Sites Tell

The version of events that circulates most widely goes like this:

  • Thomas and a woman named Natalie Wright met on the set of a short film called The Extra around 2006 or 2007
  • He directed the film; she wrote the screenplay
  • They began dating, got engaged in 2007, and planned a wedding in Westlake Village, California
  • The relationship ended quietly in 2008, before any ceremony took place

This account has been copied across celebrity biography pages, relationship databases, and entertainment blogs so many times that it carries the look of established fact. Search “Jonathan Taylor Thomas wife Natalie Wright” right now and the same story comes back from dozens of separate sources, each repeating the last.

Where the Story Actually Falls Apart

The Extra (2006) is a real film. IMDB lists it as a short comedy filmed in Ventura, California on an estimated $12,000 budget. Thomas directed it, credited under the name Jonathan Thomas. Ryan Stiles starred in it.

The writer was Michael Pacheco. Not Natalie Wright.

That one detail dismantles the entire origin story. The claim that Wright wrote the screenplay for The Extra and that is how she and Thomas connected has no factual basis. Her name does not appear anywhere in the film’s production credits on IMDB.

Whether Thomas had any personal relationship with a woman named Natalie Wright at all remains unverified. Not a single major entertainment outlet โ€” People, US Weekly, E! Online, The Hollywood Reporter โ€” reported an engagement between them in 2007. For a celebrity of Thomas’s profile, a confirmed engagement would have been significant news. Its complete absence from credible reporting is worth noting.

The most straightforward explanation is that an unverified entry in a celebrity relationship database was picked up, republished, and gradually treated as sourced journalism.

The Natalie Wright With a Public Record

There is a Natalie Wright with a well-documented career in publishing, and she has no documented connection to Thomas.

She is an author based in Tucson, Arizona, where she has lived since 1994. Her debut novel Emily’s House, the first book in The Akasha Chronicles young adult trilogy, drew over 2.1 million reads on Wattpad. Her science fiction series H.A.L.F. won multiple awards, including a top-20 finish in the worldwide Kindle Review Book Awards in 2015. Her 2023 epic fantasy Season of the Dragon was named a Top 10 Indie Epic Fantasy by both Ingram and BookShop.org and took the Silver Medal at the 2023 Readers’ Favorite Awards.

She co-hosts the Tipsy Nerds Book Club podcast, judges the NYC Midnight international writing competition, is a full member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, and lives in Arizona with her husband and two cats. Her own website, Amazon page, and professional profiles contain no reference to Jonathan Taylor Thomas.

The overlap between this author and the JTT narrative appears to be nothing more than a shared name.

The Relationships That Are Actually on the Record

Thomas has been consistent about keeping his personal life private. Confirmed reporting is limited.

Danielle Fishel is the one connection with direct firsthand confirmation. The Boy Meets World actress revealed on her Pod Meets World podcast in 2022 that Thomas was her first boyfriend when she was around 12 years old. Both shows filmed on the same studio lot in the early 1990s. Fishel recalled that after Thomas appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, he came back with a signed headshot from Letterman that read: “Dear Danielle, be nice to Jonathan.” The two stayed on good terms for years, with Thomas attending Fishel’s first wedding in 2013.

Other reported connections from the late 1990s onward were never confirmed by anyone involved.

Where Jonathan Taylor Thomas Is Today

After Columbia, Thomas moved steadily behind the camera. He directed three episodes of Tim Allen’s ABC sitcom Last Man Standing between 2013 and 2016 and made several guest appearances on the show. A January 2015 episode reunited him on screen with both Allen and Patricia Richardson for the first time in over 15 years.

Since 2017, he has served on the SAG-AFTRA national board, working in industry governance without any public profile.

In March 2024, Richardson spoke about a possible Home Improvement reboot on the Back to the Best podcast and addressed Thomas’s current interests directly:

“Jonathan’s not really interested in acting. He wants to direct and write.”

His last confirmed public sighting before 2025 came in November 2023 in Southern California. Then in January 2025, Allen told US Weekly that Thomas had visited the set of his new ABC sitcom Shifting Gears during filming:

“He just came back. He showed up on the set. He’s literally my kid.”

He maintains no social media presence and has made no public statements about his personal life.

The search for Jonathan Taylor Thomas wife Natalie Wright is a reasonable one given how thoroughly the story has been repeated. But the origin of that story is a screenplay credit that does not exist, attached to a film whose actual writer is clearly listed on IMDB. There is no confirmed engagement on record, no credible news coverage from 2007, and no marriage.

Thomas, now 44, has spent the better part of 25 years building a private life on his own terms. The fact that he has never addressed the Natalie Wright story publicly is entirely consistent with everything he has said and done since leaving Hollywood in 1998. The record is clear on this one.

Jordan Berglund started Daily News Magazine in January 2026 after spending the better part of a decade reporting for UK regional papers. He moved to London from Stockholm in 2018 and cut his teeth covering business, politics, entertainment, and breaking news across Europe, which gave him a front-row seat to how traditional newsrooms were struggling to adapt. He studied journalism at Uppsala University and later trained at the Reuters Institute, but most of what he knows about running a newsroom came from years of watching what worked and what didn't. He still reports on UK politics, celebrity news, sports, technology, and European affairs when he's not editing, and he's building Daily News Magazine around the idea that speed and accuracy don't have to be enemies.
